The Essay
Looming Impacts of A.I

Diving deep into how Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping our identities and societies. It discusses how algorithms and data sets are influencing who we are and how we interact with the world, blurring the boundaries between human thought and technological influence. It examines the introduction of technologies like Neuralink’s “N1 implant,” raising questions about the future of humanity in a world where humans and machines merge. It stresses the importance of approaching AI integration cautiously, with transparency and responsible innovation, to navigate the challenges of this new era while preserving the essence of human identity amidst technological advancements.

Asha’s blog at first looks very organized and maintains all the key menu buttons on the header to navigate through her website, it also has a nice favicon that stands out.

The homage page contains all her recent blog posts as well as all published process posts along with the mini-assignment post, making it very easy to see all her posts related to this course content requirement and engages the audience to read and view more of her blog posts previous as well as recent post, another thing that I liked was the clear hierarchy in content structure as in the post also has a date and author names to when and who posted the content.

Regarding the user experience of the site, it has a search bar to find any of her posts instantly, social media handle links to know more about her online presence, and a subscribe button that seems to not be working but it shows it is ready for a newsletter subscription which is again not distracting or annoying like many sites force users to subscribe through pop-ups.

Additionally, the menu bar has been organized clearly by making clear sections/ categories for her content structured out for her post and future posts giving the audience an idea of where to like and where to find the specific content under each category that takes the audience that respective page and its container of contents ie Home, Blog, Music, and About.

Finally, the site has an equipped accessibility icon and plug-in that helps accessible users toggle their requirements in terms of adjusting the Accessibility Tools which includes functionality such as: Increase Text, Decrease Text, Grayscale, High Contrast, Negative Contrast, Light Background, Links Underline, Readable Font, Reset.

Interestingly she also has a day/night mode that toggles the text from black to white in terms of better readability depending on the specific time of the day and the user preference for reading ease-ability.

Blog post: The blog posts are very thorough about her personal views and opinions about her choice of “song of the week” not only have an engaging tonality for the audience to read and find engaging and interesting reviews of the song, lastly I liked the highlight of the lyrics that stood out as her favourite about that specific song.

Process post: Seems to be detailed as in fact, all her posts are thorough and well written with an average of 650 words, I would however encourage adding more images to make the process post more engaging and visually pleasing, the process post #3 website map can be a bit more interactive like when clicking it enlarges it for better readability and has missing alt text.

According to the design decisions Katlyn made so far on her site she seems to be a very cheerful person who’s made a fantastically thoughtful selection of themes (template). The theme she selected is evident and straightforward about what her blog is going to be, the hero section has a banner that sets an idea for the audience regarding what her personality is and what her passion is, which is cheerleading, looking at the SFU sprint logo. Without saying too much in words her sub-title says a lot about how she views the world and wants to be viewed as (i.e ideologies of counter-publics) which gives a sense of positivity and warm welcoming “My cheer journey – you can lift weights but you can lift me”, through adding a video in her first blog she also engages the audience to become further interested in what her journey as an SFU cheerleader will say in her future blogs, “The difference shows us that the idea of a public, unlike a concrete audience or the public of any polity, is textbased-even though publics are increasingly organized around visual or audio texts (Warner, 2002)”.The video invokes viewers to understand how much hard work it takes to be a cheerleader as well as what it takes to make creative content engaging the audience to go on this journey with her, not to mention a motivational spirit that provokes the audience to perform their journeys of creative outlets. In terms of social media connection, there can be a link for the subscription button as currently, that does not do anything, and the appearance of the overall site identity, I would encourage her to add a favicon for her site to be more unique and custom to her identity. I liked that so far the home page has a date and time widget that reminds the audience of how informative and time-sensitive her contents are on the site however the time it shows seems to be in a different time zone as it shows one day in the future, I do like that it gives the audience a perspective of viewing a professional news blogger journal style for her site, additionally, the clear and concise header and states all the required sections for this course including the blog post, process post, mini-assignments and the about me page; I appreciate that all the pages have a night and day mode toggle however still lacks an accessibility plugin that’s required for bonus points and people with disability. Lastly, I liked that all the blog post has the functionality of adding comments and reactions to the posts however the comment I believe needs approval by her to be visible on the site. Overall, the organization of the site is clear enough to find all the posts regarding this course just requires more posts and clear titles that say what the blog post is about. I am looking forward to viewing more content from her blogs needless to say I am a fan of SFU’s sprint ambassadors!

Wow, Amelia’s blog is going places. I’d like to start by stating that I love the vibes she represents. The site’s design and her personalized posts reflect a lot about her personality while being professional.

It feels refreshing and unfiltered self-portrait of her everyday favourites and hobbies; carrying on inspirations and montages of other creators certainly shows her keenness on personal touch to everything. While knowing nothing about makeup or social-media celebrity lifestyle as a reader it was really easy to navigate through her topics and mode of conversations.

The writings are polished, sweet and short and do not lead to any confusion in understanding an unknown topic (i.e what’s the difference in makeup brushes or sometimes Shoppers Drug Mart has beauty items that can’t be found in Sephora), this reminded me of the of Josie Madden’s quote, “ enact identities through new styles” being born early Gen-Z a brooding man, I found myself in the counter public perspective through her blog posts. Having an older sister (who is 7 years older than me while kinda living her life like Rachel from “FRIENDS”) I connected to Amelia’s level of passion for makeup and being a fashionista with a bubbly spirit! Though there is a huge difference in generations, and although the mediums have changed the message remains the same. Identity of feeling freedom, unbothered, loved and empowered.

This encounter intrigues and encourages me to seek out the opportunity to say who I am and what I represent as a person, being a very shy person, it reminds me of the energy all the girl bosses who run this world carry. Indeed at 18, I wanted everything, definitely, different things than my colleague Amelia, yet I wonder aren’t our desires and dreams what make us?

I loved all the blog posts and the personality Amelia shows in her blog and although we might have many differences, her presentability to show herself and also knowing the audience whether it’s a by-heart teenage boy or the girl boss diva she compels all her audience members into wanting more. With unique creativity and marketing styles that engage the audience to fathom, I look forward to more blog posts expressing more about her opinions, feelings and perspective of the world. Keeping it short she ties in the audience with both text and visual appeal and being specific makes it even more exciting to know what’s next from her blog!

PS: I’d love to know more about her music tastes, favourite movies and career pursuits in future blogs. Overall, it’s amazingly simple, clever and stunning all at once 🙂
